Story of Sinking: |
The Russian ship (Prahmschiff, Schlupschiff) commanded by captain F. L. Lembcke was on her way from Tallinn to Riga when she encountered a strong SSO snowstorm. At 6 a.m., they lost the anchor and rope. They tried to hold the ship with the help of "werfancker" and "kabeltau", but it was difficult. There was already 1 1/2 fathoms of water inside the ship and, in order to save lives, they cut down the masts and let the ship run aground. On the following day they salvaged as much of the cargo and ship's inventory as possible. The captain declared the ship a wreck. |
