Story of Sinking: | The vessel (captain Jürgen Heinrich Stelting) was on her way from Riga to Lübeck when she happened to encounter pressure ice, which icebound the vessel, 2 miles before reaching the Pärnu roads. The ice pushed the ship closer to land. Three planks from each side of the vessel tore loose and water came into the ship. The pumps were not able to get the water out, so the crew left the ship and landed at Tahkuranna. From there it was seen that the ship had sunk into the water (3 fathoms deep). | ||
