Story of Sinking: The English brig Regard (captain William Wallace) had departed from North Shields on 5 September 1857. The weather was nice and the direction was taken towards Kronstadt. On 21 September at 1 a.m. the light from Kõpu Lighthouse was noticed 16 miles SSE. Strong SW winds were blowing and it was raining heavily. At 6 p.m. the light of Naissaar was noticed. On 23 September at 12.20 a.m. the ship hit a reef and foundered quickly. The crew barely managed to escape by the ship's boat. The ship's documents and logbook were left behind.
