Story of Sinking: The 11 October 1697 letter by Governor-General of Livland, Erik Dahlbergh, to the king reveals that according to the report by vice landshöfding Colonel (Oberst) Maydel residing in Helsinki, two skutes with men on board to supplement the Nymynde (now Jurmala) garrison, had departed from Helsinki on 24 September, but some days later he had received a report from Tallinn that the skutes had stranded at Padise Abbey due to bad weather. 7 men, 20 women and some kids who were on one of the skutes drowned, also all arms and provisions were lost. The crew of the other ship was resqued, but some of the arms and provisions were lost.
