Story of Sinking: The English ship (captain J.W. Chambers) was on her way from Sunderland (Newcastle) to the port of Kunda. On 18 May (N.S.) at 8 a.m., the lighthouse of Keri was 6 miles W 1/2 N. At 2 p.m., Mohni was 2 miles E by S 1/2 S. The journey along the shoreline continued, course was SE by E, then ESE and then E by S. At 7 p.m.when they were approximately 2 1/2 miles from the port of Kunda, the ship unexpectedly hit a reef and obtained a leakage. The ship filled with water and the crew was forced to leave the ship.
